Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that investment climate in Pakistan today was more conducive than ever before and that local as well as foreign investors must avail abundant opportunities available for investment in the country. He was talking to a delegation of ABB (formerly Asea Brown Boveri) comprising of Faraj Al-Jarba, President of Middle East and Africa region, Rejean Appleby, President of International Marketing and Farhat Ali, President of ABB Pakistan, who called on the PM at Prime Minister House, Islamabad, the statement said.

The meeting was a follow-up to the meeting the PM had with Kindle, GEO of ABB in Davos last week.

The Prime Minister said that currently the emphasis was being laid on the diversification of economy, particularly through transition from textile to engineering.

Pakistan, he said, possessed the potential to become a regional hub for manufacturing, and services with a wide scope for investment in telecom, real estate services, oil and gas infrastructure, power generation and distribution along with manufacturing.


Shaukat Aziz said the demand for power and energy was increasing, as economic activities were expanding all over the country.

The ABB, he said, could explore the opportunities of undertaking joint ventures with local partners and with foreign investors having an access to local credit and equity as the financial sector was very robust.

"The availability of cheap and hardworking labour and strategic location has made Pakistan an ideal choice for investors," the premier maintained.

The ABB delegation lauded the achievements made by the country in the economic field and said that it had the potential to achieve even higher growth rate.

The ABB is a leader in power and automation technology in Pakistan and has made substantial investments in Pakistan and would continue to do so, the said.

The delegation apprised the Prime Minister that ABB was committed in Pakistan in the energy sector all its segment viz power, water, oil and gas and over the last five decades it had executed number of projects of great national importance including its participation in the privatisation process undergoing in Pakistan in the power sector.

The said that the ABB was extremely well positioned in Pakistan in projects related to chemical fertiliser, paper, sugar, automotive and textile industry.

Shaukat Aziz was further informed that the ABB's activities in the rebuild process of Afghanistan were successfully supported from Pakistan. Besides, they said the ABB had successfully exported IT services out of Pakistan and was now working on a plan to export engineering and other services out of Pakistan.-PR
